Hard Work Vs Smart Work

Hello there,
You are most welcome again on rishabhkashyapnotes.

I hope the last year was good for you and this year is going to fullfill all of your desires.

Coming back to our topic of today; Hard Work vs Smart Work.
If you are one of people who simply goes with Smart work over hard work then today I will change your perspective little bit or if you are just wondering which is better then also you are in for treat today.

For last many years I have been listening from various people and reading that Smart work is the way to go and hard work is useless or overrated.

Is it so?

Or Are we just blindly following this notion without ever giving it any serious thought.

To put a scenario in front to get my argument started. I would like you to imagine that you have 10 days ahead of you and unfortunately these are going to be your last 10 days.

Now you are required to do your work of 20 hours in these 10 days regardless of how you do it.

This might sound simple but if you have ever felt the need of having just few minutes to polish your work to make it best, then you should have no bias in understanding that every hour is of value.

Here are two options on how you can spend these days:-
1. Working 2 hours each for 10 days.
2. Working as fast as you can to complete the given work.

In case you chose the 2nd option then you might be of one brats who always preach about speed and productivity jargon.

But if you chose the 1st one then you are on right path and coming paragraphs will make your belief more powerful.
(Note:- This is just an example I had to use to explain my view, these are not backed by Science or some scholarly reasearch.)

If you try to put a cap on every work that you do then you might be able to reap maximum benefits with working minimum hours notion but when you see things in larger perspective then you can't be taking account of every hour of your work.

To illustrate this I would take you back to our above example. Option 2 focuses on completing the task rather than making anything worthwhile out of these hours but, Option 1 gives you ample time to introspect with yourself and joy of doing your work to the very last day of your life.

I completely understand that most of us are not in harmony with the work we do in our daily lives and often we feel overwhelmed by it and to some degree I, myself has been the victim of it on numerous occasions.
And being a student means you are always focusing on what is beneficial for your studies and in life right now and also keeping your future endeavours in mind.

There has to come a day in your life when you are no longer thinking about how much hours you have put in your work or when I am having holiday.

You have to be so intertwined with your work that you should feel no resistance between you and your work. You and your craft have to be seen as one by the world in front of you.

Smart work and all productivity hacks are going to help you but little rather than making you the master of your field. They can work in short run but you are not going to become an expert in your work.

When you have done your work for uncountable hours, several months and considerable number of years only then you will know from inside out- What has worked for you or not?

Remember this- No person can work for 14-18 hours in a day unless he has persistence, consistency and great work ethic. If newbies tries to work these many hours, they might, but they will of little value and give less output as compared to your work ethic which you had build over last years by continuously improving your work; doesn't matter a big advancement or small leap. Everything counts.

Discipline creates performance and when discipline is coupled with flexibility it gives birth to creativity and great work.

Today in the morning I was reading about Production Management and I read something like this:- If you want to create a good product then it might come at cost of more time and resources spent on its making which laters on contribute to more customers waiting time and decreased company goodwill.

From business perspective and when you are performing to become very efficient it goes without saying that every minute is to be measured but above paragraph also portrays that it takes time to become your best version.

I know it might not be a good example but I see smart work and performance enhancement tips like you are living with your lover and saying nice words occassionally and thinking, your relationship will live on for years but its not the case (most of the time).
But when you have given sufficient months to each other and understand each other's behaviour and what ticks them. Then you know that there is no need of small talk; because you have laid the foundation of long lasting journey.

Conclusion

To conclude I will leave you with these. Productivity and smart work has their importance but when you are looking things in longer view it is of little importance. You have to see yourself as an Artist completely married with his work. Putting everything in front of his eyes in his craft rather than working few hours. With this post I tried to make you realise that it's of no issue if your little slow or get things little late. But what matters is your vision, planning and sheer will to give your best at what you do.

Read about any great men or women and you will find this holds true. So next time when you feel like you are not fast or smart enough, get back to your driving  vision and reward yourself on your little wins.

While being productive is of utmost value especially in today's competitive world it's of little use when you have lack of clarity and purpose.
On the other hand when you have sense of righteousness when you work and love what you do then you can become productive and efficient later on.

With this I say to you, may this month and year will bring you happiness and health. And if this post is been of any help to you then do consider me giving your feedback by commenting.
